TLS version on Web Browsers

Legacy web browsers use out-of-date protocols that do not support modern encryption and contain security vulnerabilities that threat actors can exploit. University services, like many other popular websites, will only be accessible via modern web browsers that support versions 1.2 or 1.3 of the Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol.

The following operating systems and browsers do not support TLS 1.2 and higher:

  • Android version 4.3 and earlier versions
  • Firefox version 5.0 and earlier versions
  • Internet Explorer versions 8-10 on Windows 7 and earlier versions
  • Internet Explorer 10 on Windows Phone 8.0
  • Safari 6.0.4 on OS X 10.8.4 and earlier versions

Use the steps below to ensure your web browser supports TLS 1.2 and above.

Microsoft Edge

TLS 1.2 is automatically enabled in all versions of Microsoft Edge.

Google Chrome
