Saur recognized with Frances Hernandez Teacher-Scholar award

Distinguished Professor Emerita of English and Modern Languages Pamela Saur, was the 2018 recipient of the Frances Hernandez Teacher-Scholar award at the Conference of College Teachers of English (CCTE) at Tarleton State University, earlier this month.

The award recognizes Saur’s lifetime achievement in teaching, scholarship and service to the profession, professional organizations and her academic institution. The award honors the life of Dr. Frances Hernandez, by rewarding recipients with a plaque and an award of $1000.

Among her scholarly achievements, Saur has produced more than 100 publications. The Texas State University System honored her as a 2010 regents’ professor, the system’s highest faculty award.  Lamar has honored her as both university scholar and university professor. She taught English and German at LU from 1988 to 2015.

She has studied in Vienna and earned an M.A. and Ph.D. in German from the University of Iowa and an M.Ed. in English Studies from the University of Massachusetts at Boston. She has published numerous scholarly articles and book chapters, monographs on Ernst Weiss and Adalbert Stifter, and four translations of Austrian books with Ariadne Press in Riverside, California.

Saur and Associate Professor Sarah Hillin represented Lamar University at CCTE. CCTE is a statewide organization to improve teaching and advance research in language and literature of English teachers in Texas universities and colleges.
