The concert is set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, in the University Theatre on the Lamar University campus.

The Bridge City High School Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Tami Goss, will begin the evening with three works for wind band including “Lola Flores” by Alfred Sadel and Terig Tucci, “Elegy” by John Barnes Chance and Dmitri Shostakovich’s “Folk Dances.”

The Lamar University Wind Ensemble will begin the second half of the concert with Takeo Hoshiya’s march “Over The Hill,” followed by John Mackey’s "Wine-Dark Sea: Symphony for Band," a three-movement tour-de-force written in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music at the University of Texas, Austin, in 2014.

The LU Wind Ensemble will conclude the program with “The Stormchasers,” a circus “screamer” type march by Robert Sheldon, guest conducted by Tami Goss.

The concert is sponsored by the Lamar University Band Program, Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music and the College of Fine Arts and Communication.  Admission is free and the performance is open to the public; no tickets or advanced reservations are required.  For more information, please visit lamar.edu/music
