Community Dialogue on Immigration Law, Policy and Enforcement: A Panel Discussion

The Lamar University Division of Global Diversity, Inclusion and Intercultural Affairs is pleased to announce its first Community Dialogue on Global Diversity and Inclusion, a series of talks to be held each semester to promote and advance world peace.

The entire community is invited to the dialogue, Thurs., Oct. 24, featuring, "Breaking Point: Immigration Law, Policy and Enforcement."

“This topic is timely because it ties into the current national debate about the role of immigration laws, policies and practices in the making and remaking of Amerian society,” said John Bello-Ogunu, vice president of the Division of Global Diversity, Inclusion and Intercultural Affairs at Lamar University.

The topic will be presented through a panel of immigration subject experts, including:

Ernesto Alvarez, Jr.
Immigration Attorney, Clark Hill, PLC

Kevin Badeaux
Priest, St. Joseph Catholic Church

Alma Garza-Cruz
Director of Immigration Services, Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas

Kristy Wendler
Immigration Attorney, Wendler Law Group

Lamar University College of Business professor of management, Henry Venta, will moderate the discussions.

A Community Dialogue Series event will be scheduled each semester to provide the greater Lamar University community the opportunity to engage in a candid and critical discussion of current and emerging issues in global diversity, inclusion, intercultural, interracial, multicultural and international relations in America.

Each semester the topic and format of the event will change.

“The primary goal of this series is to promote and advance world peace by facilitating a better understanding between and among the different groups and nations that make up today's ‘global village’ of interconnected cultures and interdependent economies,” said Bello-Ogunu. “This event will be a golden opportunity for students to engage in experiential learning, which in turn will hopefully translate into a holistically well-rounded, educated global society.”
