Saturday, December 8, Lamar University hosted the first follow-up activity to the Texas Workforce Commission Camp Code for Girls, held on-campus July of 2018. The event was held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and introduced local middle school girls to coding and animation concepts used by Pixar animators and other professionals in the field, as well as the ability to code their own apps.

Funded by the Texas Workforce Commission, the event fulfilled the requirements of their grant, of which Lamar was one of seven applicants in Texas selected as a recipient. The event was a collaboration between Dr. Stefan Andrei and Dr. Sujing Wang of the College of Arts and Sciences Department of Computer Science and Dr. Otilia Urbina of the College of Education and Human Development.

“We want Lamar to be in touch with 21st century topics that address industry needs in Southeast Texas,” said Dr. Otilia Urbina, Research Assistant Professor with the College of Education and Human Development, “Our mission will continue to be to provide girls an opportunity to be exposed to computer science careers by providing special projects focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) 21st century national needs.”
