Conversations with the Ombuds Office are voluntary, confidential and informal. The Ombuds Office is not authorized to receive notice of claims against the university nor is the ombuds a mandatory reporter. The office is not required to report any matters you discuss, unless there is an imminent risk of serious harm. By using our services, you agree not to record the conversation or call members of the office to testify in a court of law.
 

Your Lamar University Ombuds 

Jim Mann, Ph.D.

jim-mann-ombuds-lamar-university.jpgJim has been a member of Lamar University since 2006 serving as faculty in the Criminal Justice Program. While at Lamar, he has developed and taught courses in Mediation, Conflict Management, Interpersonal Development, and Leadership.  Prior to joining Lamar, Jim served in officer, staff, and administrative positions within the Federal Bureau of Prisons for over 20 years.  He was the team leader for the Hostage Negotiation Team, a member of the Warden’s executive staff, and Chief Psychologist for the Psychological Services units across four prisons. 

Jim is a trained mediator and ombuds. He is a member of the Texas Mediators Association and the International Ombuds Association.  He is also a licensed psychologist in Texas and North Carolina.
